“For the Sake of the Letter” is an exhibition in support of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

About the project

What does the world look like today for people who are waiting for their relatives and loved ones to be released from captivity? Having no knowledge, only faith, hope and love, to live in an environment where norms, rules and laws are created by people whose cynicism knows no end. Where arrogance allows them not to obey even the “laws” created by themselves.
What to hope for? In this material world, what is a person who has had everything taken away from them - relatives or loved ones - just because they are of Ukrainian nationality or identify themselves as such.

These people are forced to expose their pain, their feelings for the sake of the letter, in order to be able to nurture their faith further, in a tough struggle, for the will of their loved ones, in a war with an aggressor who has lost his shame, breaking all laws and committing the gravest sins against the Ukrainian people.

The project uses portraits of the wives and relatives of prisoners who are in the territory of the aggressor’s country - Russia.
The portraits were taken by the famous Ukrainian photographer @olenamorozova.art. Later, these photos became the object for the work of 21 collages from the residence @cutout.festival and #cutoutlovers.

Position:
We artists express our support to the prisoners, wives of prisoners, relatives and demand @redcrossukraine to act within the limits of the Geneva Convention under Article 71, where every prisoner has the right to correspondence. For the sake of the letter, we unite and speak with you in the language of art in order to be heard and to get for the captives what Man should get anyway according to the Geneva Convention and humanity.

We all work for one letter – the news that a person is alive...
